What Should I Pack for My Elk Hunt?
- In addition to your weapon of choice and ammunition, consider packing
- camouflage clothing
(While not mandatory, camouflage clothing will allow you to get closer to your trophy Elk for the perfect shot.);
- a raincoat;

Elk Characteristics
Elk:
- inhabit portions of Elk, Cameron, Clinton, Clearfield, and Potter Counties, Pennsylvania, and are found on several Elk Hunting Preserves in and around PA;
- Bulls can run up to 40 mph, are extremely agile and excellent swimmers, and are most active in the morning and evening;
- antlers can grow up to an inch a day and become larger and more complex every year. However, the actual size of the rack is also a factor of genetics and nutrition;
- are reddish brown in spring and summer. By late summer, Elk Bulls develop black manes, honey-colored bodies, and buff rumps. In winter, they're sometimes dirty blonde, beige, or off-white; and
- prefer meadows, grasslands, coniferous forests, and edge habitats (open ground next to timber) that allow them to feed but quickly get into cover if threatened. As you can see from the video, Stonebridge has the perfect habitat and another reason why it's the best Elk Hunting Preserve in PA.
